Music has been part of Kevin Dunlap’s life since 1977, when Boz Scaggs’ “Lido Shuffle” ignited a lifelong passion for drums and songwriting. Beginning as a drummer, his journey quickly expanded into songwriting, arrangement, production, and a deep study of music itself.

A pivotal chapter was studying at the Menefee Studio of Drumming under Grant Menefee, one of the most respected drum educators in the world. Grant has mentored elite players including Dan Garvin, Mike Reid, and Nate Morton. What started as advanced drum training evolved into a comprehensive musical education in song structure, dynamics, harmony, phrasing, arrangement, and the art of communicating emotion through music.  Kevin still recommends Grant Menefee without hesitation to any serious drummer.

Over the decades, Kevin immersed himself in songwriting, vocal harmony, music theory, and storytelling across many genres. Influenced by masterful writers like Adam Duritz, Justin Furstenfeld, Nick Drake, Luke Laird, Glenn Phillips, and Richard Thompson, he crafts songs that feel honest, lived-in, and emotionally authentic.

Since writing his first songs in 1984, Kevin has composed more than 1,300 tracks and continues writing daily. His catalog spans deeply personal material, songs for other artists and bands, collaborative projects, and concept-driven works rooted in real stories and emotional truth.

Today, Kevin works across multiple genres — from Texas blues and indie rock to folk, alternative, country, and beyond — offering songwriting, collaboration, arrangement, and concept development for artists and bands seeking music with heart, strong structure,  and compelling storytelling.
